Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Teurm Ratana is 13 years old, a student in 6th Grade at The Janie’s School #524 donated by Jenifer Begg. It’s located in Snam Preah commune, Bakan district, Pursat province.

There are five members in her family. She has a sister. She is the second child in the family. Her mother is a widow. She divorced her husband. Now Ratana’s father had another wife. He never visits her and supports anything in daily living. Her mother is a farmer. She has a small farmland which can produce rice about 200 kg a year. And at home, she also grows some vegetables and raises few chickens for daily meals. Sometime she goes out to look for fishes around the village. And because of low income, her mother decided to find another job as a renting farmer around the village and others places when the villagers in need. So her mother can find another income about 15,000-20,000 riels a day.

Ratana doesn’t have much free time. She usually stays by her mother with all kinds of farmland’s works. She usually goes out with her mother to make a little bit of money with the farmlands of the villagers when they need. And at home she is responsible to do all kinds of housework, taking care cows, and looks after her relative’s kids.

In the future, she wants to be a teacher of primary school. But she feels sad, it seems not possible. Because her family is really poor and even at night she doesn’t have electricity to read book and doing self-study. But she had a dream, if her family still supports her to study at school; she will try all her best and study hard until her dream come true one day.
