Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Ruo Narin

Ruo Narin is 10 years old student in 4th grade at The Shintoshin Rotary and Speros (Hawaii) School in Pal Hal village, Rik Reay commune, Rovieng district and Preah Vihear province.

Ruo Narin has gotten 6 members in her family such as a grandmother, parents, one older sister and one youngest sister. She is the second child in her family. Her father and her mother are farmers who own one hectare to grow rice. In per year they produce rice from 800kg to 1,000 kg, but the harvest is not enough for the family consumption. So her family’s living condition nowadays looks really poor. When farming work is finished, her parents earned a living as construction workers and they earned between 15,000 Riels to 20,000 Riels per day but it wasn’t a regular profit.

Narin stated that when her parents were busy at the farm, she helped her grandmother to do housework and look after her youngest sister. On holiday she helps her parents with house work and farm work. Sometimes, her neighbors hired her to grow rice and she received 15,000 Riels ($3.75) of her labor a day. In free time she likes reading books and helps her mother with the housework.

In the future Narin wants to be a police officer because she loves this job and she wants to protect the village and good people from any of bad deeds or against with gangsters who attempt to make violence in the community. Moreover, she wants to earn money to support her family to live in a situation of the better life.
