Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Sim Sreykim is 11 years old, and she studies in 5th grade at The Chres School in Phum Chres Village, Boeng Sala khang Tbong Commune, Kampong Trach District, Kampot Province.

Sreykeom is the second child in the family, with one old sister and one young sister. Her father name is Soem Sarim, 43 years old and her mother is Sum Saroem, 35 years old and they are farmers. Her family is poor and owned one hectare of farmland for growing rice. The rice can produce 18 bags of rice in per year (1 bag of rice is equal 55kg to 60kg). After the rice’s field collection her parents sold out for 5 bags and got $80 to paid back to shop owner for the cost of fertilizers and the remaining money is paid for the food but it was not enough for daily expenses in a whole year. Therefore, besides the growing rice her father had to seek another job to work as a buyer of mango that went to buy far away from home and the income that he could get in per day was $5 in order to patch up on food. However that $5 was not the regular income for their daily food. As for Sreykoem, she studied very hard and she is a good student in the class. After school, she helps her parents to do housework. In her free time, she likes to read the books and review the lessons from school.

For Sreykoem’s future goal: Sreykoem wants to be a doctor when she grows up, because she wants to help all the people in her village and around the world if she can help. Moreover, she also wants to earn money to support her family to live in better life.
