Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Nem Rina is 17 years old, and in the 10th grade at the Roving high school in Thnal Keng village, Rong Roeurng commune, Rovieng District, Preah Vihear Province.

There are three members in her family, her mother and one older brother. She is the youngest child in her family. Rina’s parent got divorced, her father remarried and no longer cares for, or support the children and their mother. Her single mother is a poor farmer, owning one hectare of farmland, producing 500 kg of rice per year. Her mother grows vegetables to make their living, generating a very little income to support their daily needs. Rina’s brother dropped out of school to help her mother on the farm, and sometimes he works as a construction worker, earning 15,000 – 20,000 Riel per day, but it is not regular work.

Rina is a good student and daughter. She works hard in class, and when she is not studying, she helps her mother on the rice field, or works on her neighbors farm, earning 12,000 Riel per day. Sometimes, they catch frogs and crab for food to sell.

In the future Nem Rina wants to be in the army because she loves this job and wants to keep the security of the country.
