Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Srey No is 11years old, student in grade 7 at The Doris Dillon School in Phnom Toch village, Sdach Kong Khang Tboung Commune, Banteay Meas District, Kampot province.

Srey No has 4 siblings and she is the fourth child in the family. Her father’s name is Phorng Sothon and her mother name is Sen Chreb, both of them are farmers. The family owns one hectare of farmland where they can earn up to $200 a year from selling rice production. As this is not enough to support the family’s needs, Srey No’s father has to plant vegetables more to sell at market. One day they can earn $5. Even with this additional income, the parents still do not have enough money to support the family and their children’s everyday needs. As a result, Srey No has to miss school to stay home and help to take care of her siblings, help in the rice field and other housework.

Srey No wants to be a teacher. She thinks that she could teach all the students in her area. She likes to help all poor people. Moreover, she wants to earn money to support her family, because her family was so poor.
