Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Nhoeurn Saray

Nhoeurn Saray is a 14 year-old-student in the 7th grade at The Kozak Ohana School #285 in Ta Theav Village, Chey Commune, Kampong Svay District, Kampong Thom Province.

Nhoeurn Saray is an only child and her parents abandoned her when she was just a baby.  Now, Saray lives with her two old grandmothers, aunt, uncle and their two young sons. They are all very poor and they live in poverty. They don’t have any farmland for growing rice like other families in the village, so they pick rice from abandoned rice fields. The family is able to get approximately 50kg of rice per year from this, which is not enough to support the family for long.  To help support the family, her uncle is a construction worker and her aunt works as a farmer in the village.  Both, her aunt and uncle can earn in between 10000 riels to 20000 riels ($2, 5 – $5) a day.
