Chran Noch is 14 years old and studies in grade 8th at Ascham Community School # 281 in O’Reang Secondary School in Pou Rang village, Senmornorom commune, O’Reang district, Mondulkiri province.
Noch, having seven brothers and one sister, is the first child in the family. Noch’s parents, own two hectares of farmland, producing 1110 kg of rice per year, earning about $50 per month, and are of a minority. The family lives in a small wooden house which is very far from the school. The school is about 150 kilometers from school to her house so Noch lives in a dormitory close to the school. The road from her home to the dormitory is very bad, it takes about 7 to 8 hours to get her house, which makes it very difficult for Noch to see her family. Additionally to working on the farm, her family picks fruit, resin, and vegetables, as well as hunts for fish and wild animals to sell. Furthermore, they raise pigs, ducks and chickens to support their family. Noch always studies hard and helps her friends with their school work as well. Noch goes back home twice a year when there are long holidays. Her parents give her $20 per month to spend and buy of what she needs for school.
In the future, she wants to be a good policewoman who can protect and give justice to local people in her village.
