The Cambodia Rural School Project

The Ruth G. Kimball School

Sou Sley.    Good Morning.

My name is John Kimball from Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A.   I am traveling with my wife Carol and our good friends Jerry and Vanny Clay, also from Honolulu.

I would like to recognize some special people involved in building this school:

Mr. Sna Proyuth                              Lt. Governor of Ratanakiri
Mrs. Chan ! Kham Kher                 Director of Continuing
Education–Ratanakiri Prov.
Mr. Cha Umg                                     School Director
Mr. Bernie Krisher                          American Assistance to Cambodia
Asian Development Bank
Teachers and staff
Most important– Students, Parents and community members

This school is dedicated to my mother,   Mrs. Ruth G, Kimball.   At  age 91, she is unable to travel to be with us today.

My mother grew up in a small town in the American state of Ohio.  At 15 years, she started teacher training and by 17 years she was a teacher in a small school like this.   Throughout her life, she was a teacher, community leader, advocate for woman and a wonderful mother,

Today she sends a message of hope and opportunity.

Hope that our teachers will share their knowledge and education freely. That our teachers will be patient and understanding with our children.

Hope that the parents, grand-parents and community will encourage their children to study and accomplish their dreams.

Hope that this school will develop into a community center for many purposes.

Hope that the opportunity offered to the children of the Ruth G. Kimball School will be recognized and taken advantage of by all. The opportunity for an education that leads to a good job and a happy life.

The hope that some students will continue their education at university to become the next generation of Cambodian leaders.

Finally, the hope that all students who pass through these doors will be good citizens and kind friends.

Thank you,
