In Their Own Words. . .

“I like school because I want to gain knowledge. My favorite subject is math.”

On her future plans: “I want to be a teacher when I grow up because I want to study Khmer.” [Khmer is a general term indicating the Cambodian language and a major ethnic group.]

On hobbies: “I like to play ‘lot antak’ with my friends” (‘Lot Antak’ is a jumping game all Cambodian children like to play. It is similar to a ‘high jump’, where children try to jump over ‘rope’ made of rubber bands. The making of rubber band rope is a tedious and intricate process, which many children devote a lot of time to).
