In Their Own Words. . .

“I am Chheum Som Ol, and I am 15 years old studying in the sixth grade.
There are 41 kids in my class. I am the #1 student in my class.”

On his favorite subjects: “I like to study mathematics because I learn how to calculate and it makes me clever. But, on the other hand, I also like to study Khmer because I learn about the history of Cambodia.”

On his family: “I have 5 brothers and one sister in my family. I am the fifth child in my family. My eldest sister is 23 years old and she is already married with four children. My second brother is 20 years old, and he stopped studying many years ago because there was no money. My third brother is 18 years old, and he stopped studying three years ago to help my parents work in the fields. My fourth brother is 16 years old, and he is studying in the ninth grade of secondary school. My sixth brother is 12 years old and attends the fifth grade of this school.”
