The Charles B. Wang –

Computer Associates

School No. Two

(August, 2001)

Ms. Chea Kakada is a first grade teacher at the Charles B. Wang-Computer Associates School Number Two.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I am very happy with the new building.  Kids like to study in the new building, so they will get more knowledge.  It is also much closer to their homes than the old school.  Your NGO was right to make it close to the students’ homes.  More students will get education, so that will help to develop this village.”

On teaching: “I am only 18 years old, and I have been a teacher for two months now.  Before this, I was a high school student.  I became a teacher because I love to teach small children.  I don’t have much experience, but I like it here.  I recently moved here from Kompong Cham province to become a teacher.”  [Kompong Cham is in central Cambodia, several days’ travel from O Smach.]

On school subjects: “I like teaching Khmer because it is important for the students to learn about their culture.  The students dislike applied science because it is difficult for them to understand and relate to.”
