The Suon Ampov Leu Nippon

Foundation School

(August, 2001)

Ms. Phang Srey Leung is the Deputy Director of The Suon Ampov Leu Nippon Foundation School.  She has been deputy for two years and a teacher for four years.  Her brother and sister are students in first grade at the school.

In Their Own Words. .

On the new building: “I am very happy with the new school building because it is not dirty and it is easy to have class in.  The old school building was in the pagoda, which made things complicated.”  [Schools in pagodas often must cancel class during ceremonies at the Wat.]

On teaching: “I became a teacher because I had finished primary school and they were short of teachers, so my teacher appointed me.  I like being a teacher, and I tutor my brother and sister in my free time.”

On school subjects: “I like teaching Khmer and mathematics because these subjects are very difficult for the students to learn, so I feel that I am strengthening the students for the future.  Other subjects are quite easy for them, so it is not a challenge and I don’t like teaching those subjects.”

On the community: “The school community visits the school and they are very happy.”

Message to the Nippon Foundation: “I would like to thank the Nippon Foundation for this school building.”
