Foundation School

(July, 2001)

Mr. Ngeun Pong is the deputy director of the Chhe Teal Chrum Nippon Foundation School.  He is 47 and has been a third grade teacher for 15 years.  His children have all either graduated or are attending school elsewhere.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I like it because the roof doesn’t leak.”

On teaching: “I like it because I want to see my students become smart.”

On school subjects: “I think that the students like learning math.  I do not know why.”

On his personal history: “I was a foot soldier for the Khmer Rouge for 12 years before becoming a teacher.  I became a teacher because when the Vietnamese invaded [in 1979] there was a lack of teachers and I had been to school, so I was needed to teach.”

Message for the Nippon Foundation: “I would like to thank the Nippon Foundation very much for this great school which helps the residents of this village very much.  I wish the members of the Foundation happiness and long life.”
