Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Beour Sonann is a 12-year-old student in the 5th grade at the Cambodia Hope School in Melum village, Melum commune, Baribour district, Kampong Chhnang province.

Sonann has two sisters, and is the second child in the family. Her father, Oeng Sophal, and her mother, Ouch Chanly are both farmers, owning half a hectare of land.  The family produces ,200 Kg pof rice per year, which is not enough to support the family.  To earn additional income, Sonann’s mother works for her neighbors, earning  25,000 riel per day for support of their famlily expenses.

Sonann helps her mother with household chores such as cleaning, cooking and taking care of her siblings. When she has free time, she likes to reading the book and do school excersie.

In future, Sonann wants to become a Khmer teacher so she can share her knowledge with the kids in her commune. Moreover, she wants to get salary to help her family to live in a good life.
