Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Bon Mom is 14 years old, a student in 8th grade at The House of Joy and Happiness School in Thkeng village, Rohas commune, Rovieng district, Preah Vihear province.

Bon Mom is the youngest child in the family, she has one older brother.  Mom’s parents are farmers, and they live in a small house in the size of 30m×50m. Mom’s family uses their land to raise six hens and one pig. Her parents also grow rice by sharing land with the other villagers and can get yield to 2 tons of rice per year.  Mom’s family sells sell a part of the rice product for cash to use in other necessary thing in family. There is the only resource of income for their family. From the income from selling rice and animal they raised are not enough to support the whole family’s needs.  Due to the poor conditions the family is living in, Mom often cannot attend school because she needs to help with house chores, nor does she have enough money for her study.

In the future, she wants to be a soldier. Because she would like be able to protect the society and country.
