Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chea Sovannara is a 11 years old and she is a student in the 5th gared at the Cambodia Hope School in Melum village, Melum commune, Baribour district, Kampong Chhnang province.

Sovannara has one younger brother and they live with her grandmother.  Her mother and father work on neighbors farms, earning a very small amount of money, so are not be able to care for their children. Her grandmother owns half hectare of land, yielding one ton of rice per year, for herself and her two grandchildren to eat in a whole year.  Her parents give her and her brother $10 a month to support their daily needs.

Sovannara is a very good student. She works hard in class, and when she is not studying, she is helping her grandmother in the rice field, or with other housework.

In the future, she wants to become a teacher so she can to share her knowledge and teach the children in her commune. Moreover, she wants to earn money to support her family.
