Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sokhea is13 years old, and she is in grade 7 at The Doris Dillon School in Phnom Toch village, Sdach Kong Khang Tboung Commune, Ben Teay Meas District, Kampot province.

Sokhea has 2 siblings and she is second in the family. Her father’s name is Mr.  Srey Sarun and her mother name is Soum Khim, both of them are farmers. The family owns one hectare of farmland in which they can earn up to $300 a year in rice product. As this is not enough to support the family’s needs, her father has to go on trips to be a construction worker that he can earn 30,000 riels per day. Not all the income can support the family and their children’s everyday needs. Because of the family situation that cannot let her to come school regularly, she has to stay home and help to take care for her siblings and help her parents other housework.

She wants to be a doctor to cure all the villagers in her location; she thinks that in her location is far from hospital.
