Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chhoun Sokhem is a 12 years old and she is a student in the 3rd grade at The Cambodia Hope School in Melum village, Melum commune, Boribour district, Kompong Chhnang province.

Sokhem has 2 siblings and she is the first child in the family. Her father’s name is Preab Thoeurn and her step mother’s name is Um Sovan. Her mother was divode since she was young, so her father get married with a new wife. The family have owns a small piece of farmland in which they can produce 100kg of rice per year and keep for daily eating in a whole year. As the income, this is not enough to support the family’s needs, Sokhem’s father commonly has to work in the village, earning up tp $5 a day.  However, even with this additional income, the parents do not have enough money to support the family and their children’s everyday needs.

Sokhem is a good student and daughter. She works hard in class, and when she is not studying, she is helping her mother with housework, such as cleaning the house, washing clothes and cooking.

In the future Sokhem wants to be khmer teacher so she can pass on the khmer history and knowledge to the next generation. Moreover, she wants to earn an income that can better support her family.
