Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chim Thoeu is an 11 year-old student in 5th grade at The David and Deborah Roberts school, which is located in Ta Ream village, Tbeng commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province of Cambodia.

She was born in a poor family that has three siblings, a younger brother, a younger sister and she is the first child in family. The second child is girls. Because of her family is poor, so her father has kept her living with his elder sisters. Therefore, Chim Thoeu lives with her two aunts nowadays. They are the farmers. One aunt looks after a pair of buffalo and other aunt transplants the rice with her father. After harvesting the rice, they sold out one part of this to reimburse for cost of fertilizers and the less part they keeps. The quantity of rice that they keep is enough for a year. If it doesn’t enough, her aunts have to sell a buffalo to reimburse the transplanting fee and fertilizers which they borrowed from someone. Besides farming, her aunts don’t have other work. They don’t have enough income to support their family.

Besides school, Chim Thoeu usually helps her aunts cooking rice and food. In the future, Chim Thoeu wants to be a teacher.
