Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Chomreoun Sonan is a 12-year-old and she is a student in the 5th grade at the Cambodia Hope School in Melum village, Melum commune, Baribour district, Kampong Chhnang province.

Sonan has two sisters and she is the eldest child in the family. Her father’s name is Ouch Bora and he is 34 years old and he is a construction worker, get 7$ in a day for support his family living. Her mother’s name is Breng Thul and she is 27 years old. Her mother is a farmer. They have their own farmland is about a hectare for growing rice and they can produce for 800kg of rice for a year. They are keeping the rice for daily eating in a whole year. Even they get the income from the salary but it still not enough to support their family expenses. Sometime they don’t have enough money to buy school supplies for their children.

Sonan is a good student in class and she always gets a high school in class. Even she lives in a poor family but she never absent from school and after school she always help her mother to do house work and look after her sibling.

In the future, Sonan wants to become a Khmer teacher so she can share her knowledge and her experience to the next generation in her village.
