Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Hav Kimhoun

Hav Kimhoun is 13 years old and will be going into the seventh grade this year (2020). She lives in Kbal Turk village, Phnom Srouch commune, Kompong Speu province.

She is the third child in her family, and has ten siblings: six brothers and four sisters.

Her father’s name is Hav Chantha. He is 65 years old and is a farmer.

Her mother’s name is Mon Kung. She is 52 years old and is a farmer as well.

They do not have their own farmland, so her parents work on other people’s farmland. They can produce about 800kg to 1000kg of rice per year. Sometimes her father even goes to Thailand to find another job there.

Kimhoun currently lives with her grandmother. However, her grandmother’s health is not so good. Kimhoun everyday walks one km. from her house to the school. She fears that she may not be able to finish middle and high school because of the situation; however, she does not want to stop and she really wants to finish high school.

Every day, she helps her grandma clean the house and cooks for the whole family. She loves to cook. Her favorite color is red and her favorite animal is a parrot.

In the future, she wants to become a Khmer teacher and support her family.
