Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Houch Chanda is 16 years old and she is a student in the 9th grade at The Kozak Ohana School in Chey Village, Chey Commune, Kampong Svay District, Kampong Thom Province.

Chanda has four sisters and she is the second child in the family. Her parents are farmers and own one hectare of farmland to grow rice, with a yield of 700kg/year.  It is a small amount and is not enough to feed the family for long. Thus, her father and mother moved to Battambong Province to work in construction, so Chanda and her younger siblings live with her elderly grandparents.  As Chanda’s grandparents are old, she has to look after her siblings and help with housework, which makes her commonly miss school. Even though she is busy at home, she does not give up in school and hopes to become a teacher when she is older.
