Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Hum Reaksa is 12 years old, she lives in Tropeang chroneang Village, Chrolorng Commune, Baray District, Kampong Thom Province. She is in the 5th grade at Tuol Andet Primary School located in Tropeang Chroneang Village, Chrolorng Commune, Baray District, Kampong Thom Province.

Reaksa has 2 siblings and they are the girls. She is a first in the family. Her father’s name is Mr. Horng Hai and her mother’s name is Sam Sopha, both of them are farmers. The family have own one-hectare of farmland, which they can earn about $300 a year in rice products. As this is not enough to support the family’s needs. Reaksa’s father beside of farm, he commonly has to go on trip to find the extra work like carrying the sack of cements for the construction company that he can earn $6 in a day. All the income above is not enough to support the family and their children’s every day needs. Therefore, she has to miss school and stays home to help taking care her siblings or help in the rice field and other housework.

Reaksa wants to be a doctor because she wants to cure all the people in her lactation, it is very difficult for the people in her area when they are sick because the hospital is very far form the village. Moreover, She wants to support her family to live in a better life.
