Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Huon Socheat is 17 years old and she is studying in grade 9th at The Naohiro Nishiya School, which is located in Opork Samky village, Meanrith commune, Sandan district, Kampong Thom province.

There are 5 members, parents, two brothers and one sister. She is the eldest child in the family.  Her parents are farmers, in which they have own farmland for 1 hectare that can produce 1,000kg of rice in per year.  Additionally to tending to the farmland, Socheat’s mother works as a day laborer to help support the family.  Sometimes, Socheat works in neighboring rice fields to earn extra money and get between $3-$5 in per day. Socheat helps to earn an income for support her family, it is very common that she has absent from school to help family to do the field. She and her sisters are often growing vegetable to support her family’s daily expense.

In the future Socheat wants to be an agriculture skill because she wants to become a vegetable supplier in her village and earn more income to build the house for her family to live in a good condition.
