Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Khlem Sareth

Sareth is 13years old, and she studies in 7th grade at The Tmor  Berk  School #351, located in Kampong Trach District, Kampot province, donated by Clarie Frankel.

Sareth lives in Preah Troheung Village, Prek Kreus Commune, Kampong Trach District, Kampot Province. There is a three-member in her family, She is the younger sister in the family, with 1 brother and 1 sister. Her father’s name is Thon Klem 49 years old And her mother is Soth Sreython 50 years old and they are farmers. Her family is poor and owned half a hectare of farmland for growing rice. The rice can produce 14bags of rice in per year (1 bag of rice is equal 160kg). After the rice yield collection her parents sold out for 9 bags and got $170 to paid back to shop owner for the cost of fertilizers and the remaining money is paid for the food but it was not enough for daily expenses in a whole year. Therefore, besides the growing rice, her father had to seek another job to work as a worker and her mother can’t do anything because her leg was sick and she hasn’t enough money. And the income that her father could get in per day was $5 in order to patch up on food. However that $5 was not the regular income for their daily food.

As for Sareth, she is studying very hard and she is a good student in the class. After school, she helps her parents to do housework. In her free time, she likes to read books and review the lessons from school.

For Sareth’s future goal: Sareth wants to be a nurse when she grows up. She wants to help all the kids in her village and also she wants to earn money to support her family.
