Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Heung Mai is 13 years old and she is in grade 9 at The Doris Dillon School in Phnom Toch village, Sdach Kong Khang Tboung Commune, Ben Teay Meas District, Kampot province.

She is the fourth child in the family. She lives in a very poor family. She has only father, his name Mr. Un Sameth who works as construction worker and her mother died long time ago. She has to struggle her life by living without having mother. Her father raises two cows. She has to take care herself because her father has no time to take care of her. He needs to go work in whole day to earn money for family. As a construction worker, he earns only $7 per day. He hardly raises his children because the money he gets is so little. Heung Mai usually has to miss school to stay home and help to cook for her siblings or other housework.

The future Heung Mai wants to become an English translator, because she thinks she can earn more money to help her family. Also, she likes studying English language so much.
