Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chanthou is 14 years old, and she is in grade 7 at The Doris Dillon School in Phnom Toch village, Sdach Kong Khang Tboung Commune, Ben Teay Meas District, Kampot province.

Chanthou has 6 siblings and she is the second in the family. Her father‘s name is Mr.  Khun Seang and her mother name is Kep Srey , both of them are farmers. The family owns one hectare of farmland where they can earn up to $ 250 a year in rice product. Not all the income enough to support the family’s needs, her parents have to plant vegetables to sell at market and they can earn $3 to $4. Therefore, Chanthou has to miss school to stay home and help taking care her siblings, help in the rice field and other housework.

She wants to be a teacher in her community. She also wants to build girls up and give the women encouragement.
