Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Ly Chantin is a 14-year-old student in the 8th grade at The Savant School, which is located in Taney village, Choam Sangker commune, Phnom Sruoch district, and Kampong Speu province.

Chantin has two brothers and she is the second child in the family. Her father’s name is Mr. Sreng Tech, who is 45-years old, and her mother’s name is Mrs. Morm Cheabot, who is 39-years old.  Both of her parents are farmers, owning 2 hectares of farmland to produce 25 sacks of rice (80kg per sack) per year. The family is able to sell 15 bags of the rice they produce, earning $270.  However, this income is insufficient to support the family as majority of the income goes to supporting the farm and paying off farm debt.  Therefore, Chantin commonly misses school to work as a mango picker to earn a small amount of money for her studies and daily needs.

Chantin expressed her future goal as: “I want to become a teacher of Khmer Literature, because it is my favorite subject.”
