Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Ly Sokrai is 16 years old, and she is in grade 9 at Donduong Secondary School, and she lives in Taphork village, Balang Commune, Baray District and Kampong Thom Province.

Ly Sokrai’s has 3 sibling one sister and two brothers. She is the eldest child in her family. Her parents are farmers, owning one hectare of farmland. The family is able to collect maybe 14 sacks of rice for this year, because the rain season is short and the atrophy of rice and the rice had produce so little like this. Sokrai’s parents didn’t have rice enough for eat for this year. Her parents beside do farms, they try to find other jobs such as: construction worker and sometime they hired pull out of potatoes in their village for money. They get around 20000riels a day from their work, but it is not every day. Sokrai’s family is very poor and her parents gave her 1000riels a day for her studies and rides her bike to school every day, Ly Sokrai is a good daughter she always get up early morning, because she planted vegetables and she always watering vegetables every morning and evening, after school and before school she always watering vegetables and help their housework.

In the future Sokrai wants to be a teacher and she wants to share knowledge to the next generation. Moreover, she wants to earn an income that can get better for support her family.
