Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Mai Makara is 14 years old, She is studying at grade 8 of Hikari school at Songkea village, Snoul commune, Kralanh district, in Siem Reap province.

Mai Makara is the first child of her family, And she have 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Her father’s name is Pek Mai. He is 37 years old and her mother’s name is Eourt Bob. She is 34 years old. And they are farmers.

Makara live in Taseng Village far from school about 7 km, And she go to school by ride a bicycle. Her family is poor and owned one hectare of farmland for growing rice. The rice can produce 5 bags of rice in per year (1 bag of rice is equal 100kg). After the rice’s yield collection her parents go to be worker at Ortdor Meanchey Province. However, that income was still not enough for their daily consumption in a whole year. After school, she always did housework and looking her brother and sister because her parent was working far from them.

As for Mai Makara, she is study very hard and she is a good student in the class. After school, she cook food for her sister and her brother, to do housework. In her free time, she likes to read the books and review the lessons from school.

For Mai Makara’s future goal: She wants to be a Doctor to earn money to support her family. And she wants to help all the people in her village.
