Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Mey Chhoeury

Mey Chhoeury is 14 years old and is a student in grade 7 at The Ang Daun Pis Village Learning Center #550, located in Kong Pisey District, Kampong Speu province, donated by the students of the Australian International School Singapore.

Chhoeury has two brothers. She is the oldest child in the family. Her father’s name is Men Phara, 32 years old. Her mother’s name is Choun Sochea,  32 years old. Her parents are farmers. The family owns one hectare of land, used to grow rice and vegetables, and 2 cows. The family can produce 1,700 kg of rice every year that can feed the family. As the family is poor, there is not enough money to support her studies. She commonly has to ride her bicycle to school which is two kilometers and a half long from her house to school every day.

In the future, Chhoeury wants to be a nurse because she wants to look after her family and the elderly people of her commune. Additionally, she wants to help financially support her family and provide them with a better life.
