Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Nang Somphors is 13 years old, grade 6 at Peam Khvav Primary School, located in Peam Khrav village, Dom Bokrong commune, Phom Srouch district and Kampong Speu province.

Nang Somphors has three brothers and one sister. She is the fourth child in her family. Her father’s name is Phat Nang, 51 years old. He is a construction worker and he can earn 30,000 riels in a day. Her mother’s name is Chea Thea, 41 years old. She is a farmer. Her family has about 15,000 m2 of farmland for growing rice. Her family can produce the rice about 3,500 kg per year and sold for 2000kg, get $500 to support their living and keep some rice for daily eating in a whole year. Even they have income but it still not enough for cover their expense in the whole year and they live in a hard situation. They don’t have enough money to buy school supplies for their children.

In future, Somphors wants to be a teacher because she wants to teach the students in her village. She wants to give them good knowledge and easy to find better jobs. Moreover, she wants to earn money to support her family to live in a better life.
