Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Oeurn Menea is 14 years old, she lives in Hanthvea Village, Chrolorng Commune, Baray District, Kampong Thom Province. She is in the 5th grade at Tuol Andet Primary School location in Tropeang Chroneang Village, Chrolorng Cmommune, Baray District, Kampong Thom Province.

Menea has 4 siblings, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She is the second child in the family. Her father’s name is Dy Oeurn and her mother’s name is Sen Rath, both of them are labor workers and working in another province. Her family has no farmland. Menea’s parents can earn about $6 per working day in cements company. The income are enough to support the family’s needs and their children school supplies. The situation of her family is very difficult to survive. Therefore, Menea cannot regularly fulfill her school attendance; she has to stay home and help taking care her siblings and the other housework during her parents leave to work in another province.

Menea wants to be a teacher, she hopes to share knowledge and education to the students in her community as well as to get income to support her family.
