Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Phal Soleth is 16 years old and she is a student in grade 10th at Kulen High School. She lives in Dan Village, Khum Thmey Commune, Kulen  District, Preah Vihear Province.

There are 6 members in the family, parents, and 4 sisters including her. She is the third child in the family. Her father’s name is Huot Phal, 46 years old and her mother’s name is Oeurn Sokny, 43 years old. They are all farmers. Her parents do the farm once a year by growing rice in dry season because there is not enough water to grow rice, so it is not easy for them. They have 2 hectares of farmland and they can harvest the rice about 30 sacks equals 2.5 tons in per year and can earn about 1,000,000 to 1,200,000 Riels in per year. When they finish the farm ready, in dry season they will stay at home to grow some vegetables in the garden behind their house to support their family’s daily life. They can earn about 7000 Riels per day by selling vegetables.

Furthermore, Soleth is a good friend and student, she never comes to school late and she is very friendly. When she gets scholarship from donor, she promise that she will respect the GBA rules and try to study hard. Her house is about 5 to 6 kilometers from school but she said that it was difficult for her to go to school but she promised that she has to struggle the obstacle to achieve her goal.

In the future, she wants to be a soldier because she hopes that she can protect Cambodia land and help her family to live in a better life.
