Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Phay Sreytoch is 14 years old, a student in the 8th grade at The House of Joy and Happiness which is located in Thkeng village, Rohas commune, Rovieng district, and Preah Vihear province.

Sreytoch was born in a poor family with 7 members; her parents, two brothers and two sisters and her. Her parents are farmers.  Due to the poor living conditions with her parents, Sreytoch was sending to live with her aunt and uncle.  Although the living conditions with her aunt and uncle are better, they are still poor.  Sreytoch’s aunt and uncle are also farmers, producing up to 2 tons of rice annually.  They are able to sell some of the rice for $200 a year, which goes to paying back for the farmland debts as well as supporting the family’s food needs.  The income that Sreytoch’s aunt and uncle receive is not enough to support her schooling and other necessities.  As a result, Sreytoch regularly misses classes as she is asked to help on the farm and she does not have enough money for regular studies.

In the future, she wants to be a teacher. Because this is the best job for her and most importantly, when she would be able to get the salary she can support her family and give them an opportunity to live in a better life.
