Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sun Pheakdey

Sun Pheakdey is a 12-year-old student in grade at Grace, Hope, Beloved School, which is located in Boeng Veng village, Tang Krasang commune, Batheay district, and Kampong Cham province.

Pheakdey was born in Phnom Vihear village, Tang Krasang commune, Batheay district, and Kompong Cham province. Her parents were traffic accident, they were passed away when she was a baby. She has been living with her aunt and aunt’s children. Her aunt’s house is located far from the school at about 1.5 km. Her aunt has five children, all her children are female. Three of her aunt’s daughter got married, they went to live with their husband’s family. Another aunt’s daughter has been working at a factory in Phnom Penh city. They have only about 0. 1 hectare to build a house and they do not any own farmland to grow rice. Her aunt has been sick, she stays at the house with her baby daughter and Pheakdey. Her elder sister’s salary gets $170 a month to support such food, rice, medicine. Her aunt has been gotten $45 every month. Sometimes other aunt’s daughters gave some money for her aunt’s sick and for food. How ever, it was not enough for support for their living. Sometimes Pheakdey’s relatives gave some food, some money to support their living.

Pheakdey is a good student in a class, and she works hard in a class. When she has free time from her studying, she is helping her mother with her aunt to cook food and take care of her aunt’s baby sister. She washes her aunt’s clothes.

Pheakdey expressed that, in the future goal she wants to be a nurse in Batheay hospital, she wants to take care of her aunt’s health. She told her aunt is like her mother, she loves her aunt.
