Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Phorn Panha is 14 years old, grade 10 at Chrey Khmum Secondary School, located in Chrey Khmum Village, Chrey Khmum Commune, Sithor Kandal District, Prey Veng province, Cambodia.

There are five members of the family. Phorn Panha has two brothers and one sister. She is the third child in her family. Her father’s name is Suoy Phorn, he is 42 years old and he is a farmer. Her mother’s name is Chim Sokhai, she is 45 years old, and she died three years ago. Her father has farmland about 5,000 m2 for growing rice. Her family takes crop yield of rice about 3,000 kg per year and they had sold for 2000kg of rice, get $350 for support their living but it still not enough to cover their expenses for the whole year. Nowadays they live in a hard situation and sometime Phorn Panha doesn’t have money to buy school supplies but she always keeps trying to go to school every day. Both her old brother and sister dropped out of school and find a job to support their family. After school, She always helps her father to do house work and when she has free time, She likes to read the book and help her younger brother to do homework.

In the future, Phorn Panha would like to be a teacher. She wants to improve human resources at the rural area and for helping the family and she wants to help her young brother to go on to study till high school.
