Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Ran Meymey

Ran Meymey is 13 years old, grade 5 at Peam Khvav Primary School, located in Peam Khrav village, Dom Bokrong commune, Phom Srouch district and Kampong Speu province.

There are 5 members in her family. Ran Meymey has one brother and two sisters. She is the first child in her family. Her father’s name is Long Ran, 36 years old, and her mother’s name: Chheun Chentha, 38 years old. They are farmers and they have own land for a half hectare for growing rice. They can produce for 1000kg of rice and they keep for daily eating in the whole year. After finish from the rice season her parents goes to work as a mango gatherers and they can earn 30,000 riels in a day in season for support their family living but it still not enough for cover their expense in per year.

Meymey always help her parents to do house work and look after her sibling after school and she goes to school by walking because her house nears the school.

In future, Ran Meymey wants to be a teacher. She wants to share her knowledge to the students in her village
