Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Roeun Nalen is 13 years old, and is in grade 7 at The Savant School in Taney village, Choam Sangkea commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kompong Speu province.

There are nine members in the family. Nalen has five brothers, one sister, and he is the fifth child in the family. Her dad works as a construction worker near Phnom Penh, earning $10 a day and visits home once a week.  Nalen’s mother is a housewife, staying home and looking after her nine children.  The family is vry poor and does not own any land of their own.  Nalen does not have enough money to buy school supplies for her studies.  However, that does not stop her from coming to school and working her hardest.

Nalen wants to be a teacher because she wants to share knowledge and education to the students in her community as well as be able to help financially support her family.
