Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sereymany is 14 years old, studying in the 7thgrade at The Svay Chek Secondary School, located in Anlong Spean village, Svay Chek Commune, Romdoul District, Svay Rieng province.

Sereymany has 3 siblings and she is the first child in the family. Her father‘s name: Mr. Sek Ran and her mother’s name: Srey Vantha, both of them are farmers. The family owns one hectare of farmland in which they can earn up to $250 a year in rice product. As this is not enough to support the family’s needs, Sereymany’s father commonly has to go on trips to be a slave.  He has to carry the sack of cement in vender shop to get extra earn $5 a day. Even with this additional income, the parents do not have enough money to support the family and their children’s study needs. Sereymany commonly has to miss school to stay home and help taking care her siblings and help in the rice field.

She wants to be a doctor to cure all the people in her location; she thinks that in her location is far from hospital.
