Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Yon Ongy, 16 years old, she is in grade 7 at Pluk Secondary School, Pluk Commune, Sesan District, Stung Treng province.

Ongy is the sixth child in the family with the other 15 siblings. Her parents are farmers, father’s name Thonn Yonn and mother’s name Som Ly. They have their own farmland about 0.5 hectare in where they can produce rice 2,250 kg during a year to support the family. Besides working for their rice field, they have to find other labor work out of the village for 6 – 8 weeks and earn about $370 per year. Moreover, the rest of the times, they are growing vegetable to sell or exchange for daily food. Not even all income are enough to support the family and the study of their children. They admired to the donor for supporting their daughter to continue to study; even the help cannot change their living but at least can help them reduce the payment of each month.

She wants to be a teacher. She promised to come school and study hard.
