In Their Own Words. . .
On the new building: | “The kids don’t like the old building because it is difficult to study in. When the new building was built, kids became eager to study. In the old building, the roof and walls were eaten by termites so they would fall down when the wind blew. The new building is good for the village because we will no longer have to spend money to repair our school building. It is strong and will last for a long time.”
On teaching: | “I became a teacher because I worry about Khmer culture. There is a lack of teachers and without enough teachers the children will not learn Khmer culture.”
On the importance of education: | “I think that it is important for my children, and all children, to go not just to primary school, but to secondary school and high school. Children who graduate from secondary and high school have sound knowledge and can get good jobs, so it is important.” |
