The Cambodia Rural School Project

The Prek Am Nippon

Foundation School

Non Voleak is a fourth grade student at the Prek Am Nippon Foundation School.
Out of the forty students in her class, she was ranked fifth.

On herself: I am thirteen years old. I have five siblings, and two of them are studying with me at this school. My father is a farmer, and my mother has a small shop near our house. Our house is right by the school.

On the new building:

When we got the new building, we were all very happy to have such a beautiful school for us to study in. I am very happy o study here. When I was studying at the old school, part of the building collapsed. It would have been impossible to study there for much longer.

Favorite subject:

Math: because it teaches me how to calculate.

On her spare time:

In my spare time, I do my homework. I also help my parents with their work at home. Before I got to school, I carry water to water our crops. We grow eggplants, bananas, mango, and cabbage.

In the future: I have a desire to become a teacher. I want to teach Cambodian villagers. I also want to be a nurse as well, because the villagers in this village need a nurse. Whenever they get sick, it is difficult for them to find help.

If she could travel anywhere:

I want to see Angkor Wat temple. It’s a very special Cambodian heritage.

The rusty piece of metal, hanging from the palm tree on his right, is used as the school bell.
