The Aeon Orange School

(July, 2001)

Lav Sopheaum is a 14-year-old fifth grade student at the Aeon Orange School.  He was ranked fifth out of the 35 students in his class at the end of last year.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new school: “I like the new building because it is large and nice.  The roof doesn’t leak and walls on the sides so that rain cannot come in.  When it’s raining, I can keep studying, so it helps me and the other students study.”

On school subjects: “I like mathematics because it is easy to understand.  I don’t like social science because it is difficult to memorize the lessons.”

On his free time:  “I help my parents in the fields when I am not at school.  Sometimes I play volleyball with my friends.”

On his future: “I would like to graduate from high school because I would like to get a good job.  My parents think that it is important for me to study in high school.  I want to go to Siem Reap town to stay with my uncle while I go to school.  Then I want to work in Siem Reap and run a business.”
