Foundation School

Mr. Phon Nath is the director of the Beng Tret Nippon Foundation School

On himself

I am fifty-one years old and  have eight children. My wife is a farmer. We grow corn, soy, and green beans. We alternate between corn and beans twice a year, because there is enough water here. Most people here grow different crops at different times. Some plant corn at the beginning of the year, and some towards the middle of the year.

I became a teacher in 1986, and I have been a director since 2000. I like teaching. I started teaching because I want to help my country progress, and I like children.

My house is twelve kilometers away from the school. It is about twenty minutes ride by motorcycle.

On the new building:

This village has never had such a nice school as this before. We used to have a lot of problems with the rain at the old school built by the community. Whenever it rained the students couldn’t study. Now I’m happy that we don’t have that problem anymore. The students are happy, too. When the new building was finished, the whole school moved here.
