Phan Sokhan is 15 years old. She is in the sixth grade at The David Nathan Meyerson School.

In Their Own Words. . .

on her family “I am the youngest in my family, and the only child that goes to school. My sister Chea is 25 years old and she stopped studying after third grade because she was unable to ninth grade because he wanted to help my parents. My other sister Eam is 18 years old and she stopped studying after seventh grade because she needed to help my mother in the fields. My father is Hem Than and he is 45 years old. My mother is Tem Ma and she is 42 years old. They are both farmers.”

 

on the new school building “I am very happy to learn in this new school because the new building makes it so easy to learn. I like to come to school because it is a new concreted building.”

 

on school subjects “I like to learn Khmer and Social Sciences because these two subjects are easy to understand. I do not to study Mathematices because it is difficult for me. Even after the teacher explains Math again and again, I still cannot understand it.”

 

on her hobbies “During my free time, I clean my house. When I meet my friend at school I like to read because reading provides knowledge.”

 

on her future “When I am older, I want to be a seller because I earn a lot of money.”
