The Develo School No. One
Thy Sokhaing is a third grade student at the Develo School No. One. She is fourteen years old, and she is ethnically Lao. She was ranked fourth among her 40 classmates in the first semester of this year. Her parents are both farmers. She has three sisters and four brothers; four of her siblings come to study at the new school.
On her studies:
|
“I am good at Khmer language but the most difficult subject is mathematics because I am not good with numbers. My parents allow me to go to school because they want me to get an education. I am happy as well that they enrolled me at the school. I can speak Lao but I don’t know how to write it. I saw some foreign tourists come to visit my village but I can’t speak to them. I want to learn English so that I can meet them.”

On the new building:
|
“I like the new school building. I don’t want to learn in the old, ugly building. The new building is bright and beautiful.” |
