Kat Sokhon is the school director. He is fifty-one years old. He has been a teacher since 1982. Three years ago, he began working as a director. He also teaches first grade.

On the New Building: “I am very excited to have a new school building. ‘Tum pe ang’ It is a Khmer proverb meaning the young bamboo replaces the old. Just as the young bamboo shoots up and grows strong very fast, education allows the children to do the same. For when the old die, the young take over. The new school will help make the younger generation stronger than before.”

On Teaching: “I teach first grade. I teach them math, Khmer, and social studies, and sometimes also science. I believe mathematics is very important, since people need to know how to measure and calculate. Especially the children of farmers.

On the Old Building: “In the old building, we could see the sky through the roof, and the trees outside through the cracks in the wall. This area is very windy, and, depending on the season, the wind would either blow dust through the walls, or rain through the roof. Sometimes, whole chunks of roofing would be blown off. All these problems are now no more.”

Message to the Donor: “There are no words to express our gratitude. Only, that we are happier because of it.”
