The George Mrus School

 (October, 2001)

Mr. Var Ven is the director of the George Mrus School.  He has been a school director for two years.  He was a teacher for 11 years before becoming the school director.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I like the new building because it is very nice and concrete.  The old building was wooden and the students didn’t want to come to school because it might collapse.  Now they like to come to school in the nice new building.  I think that the villagers like the new building because their children can learn in a nice place.”

On school subjects: “I became a teacher because I like this job and watching the students learn.  I like teaching all the subjects, but mathematics is my favorite because it is important and used every day in business.  The students like learning Khmer because they want to learn how to read first.  They don’t like learning applied science because sometimes they don’t understand the lessons, so they don’t pay attention.”
