The Hiroko Kato School

Mr. Pou Sok, the 37-year-old director at the Hiroko Kato School.

Pou Sok is the 37-year-old director at the Hiroko Kato School. He is an ethnic minority member who has lived in the area for many years. He has six children, five boys and one girl; three of them are studying at the new school.

“I studied for one year at the pedagogy school in Stung Treng province and then I became a teacher. I have been teaching here since 1987 and in 1999 I was promoted to be director because there was only one teacher at that time; it was me.”

“My favourite subjects to teach are Khmer literature and math. I want students to know the Khmer language and to know how to calculate.”

“I like this job because I want our ethnic people, especially young people, to speak Khmer better or even fluently and then have knowledge to develop our community and village.”
